Ingredients

For the Pears
  • 5 Pears or Apples Select ripe, juicy fruit for the best flavor and texture.
For the Caramel Coating
  • 24 oz Soft Caramels Use soft caramels for a smooth melt.
  • 1 tbsp Water Just a splash helps to melt the caramels smoothly.
For the Chocolate Coating
  • 12 oz Dark Chocolate Provides a rich flavor; milk chocolate is a great substitute.
For the Topping
  • 1 cup Finely Chopped Nuts Pecans or walnuts work perfectly.

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • spatula
  • baking tray
  • greased wax paper
  • double boiler or microwave

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions

  2. Melt the Caramels in a medium saucepan over low to medium heat for about 5–7 minutes, stirring continuously.
  3. Dip the Pears three-quarters of the way into the hot caramel, allowing excess caramel to drip back into the saucepan.
  4. Melt the Dark Chocolate gently using a double boiler or microwave, stirring frequently until smooth.
  5. Coat the bottom halves of each caramel-coated pear in melted dark chocolate, then press into chopped nuts.
  6. Return the chocolate-coated pears to the lined baking tray and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
