Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare Caramel: In a saucepan, add sugar and heat over medium without stirring until it melts into an amber color, about 8-10 minutes. Pour caramel into a greased loaf pan and allow it to cool.
  2. Mix Flan Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, coconut milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and shredded coconut until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Assemble Flan: Pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel layer in the loaf pan gently to avoid mixing.
  4. Bake in Water Bath: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Place the loaf pan inside a larger baking dish filled with hot water. Bake for 50-55 minutes until lightly golden and firm.
  5. Cool and Chill: Let the loaf pan cool to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Transfer to refrigerator and chill for at least 3 hours.
  6. Unmold the Flan: Place the loaf pan in warm water for a few minutes. Run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate.
