- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8 x 11.5 inch baking dish with butter, then sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar evenly across the bottom.
- Rinse the fresh berries under cool water, trim the strawberries, and place them in a bowl. Drizzle with berry liquor if using and let sit for 10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk 8 eggs, gradually add 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Then mix in 2 cups of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk until smooth.
- Layer half of the cubed brioche bread in the baking dish, pour half of the custard over the bread, and press down to absorb the custard.
- Evenly distribute half of the mixed berries over the soaked bread, layer the remaining bread cubes, and pour the rest of the custard mixture on top.
- Sprinkle the remaining berries on top and bake for 55 minutes to 1 hour until edges are set and the top is golden.
- Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving, consider garnishing with whipped cream and extra berries.
