Step-by-step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8 x 11.5 inch baking dish with butter, then sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar evenly across the bottom.
  2. Rinse the fresh berries under cool water, trim the strawberries, and place them in a bowl. Drizzle with berry liquor if using and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk 8 eggs, gradually add 1 1/2 cups of sugar and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Then mix in 2 cups of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk until smooth.
  4. Layer half of the cubed brioche bread in the baking dish, pour half of the custard over the bread, and press down to absorb the custard.
  5. Evenly distribute half of the mixed berries over the soaked bread, layer the remaining bread cubes, and pour the rest of the custard mixture on top.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining berries on top and bake for 55 minutes to 1 hour until edges are set and the top is golden.
  7. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving, consider garnishing with whipped cream and extra berries.
