Step-by-Step Instructions for Crispy Fried Mushrooms
  1. Combine panko breadcrumbs, Old Bay seasoning, marjoram, garlic powder, kosher salt, and fresh ground black pepper in a medium bowl.
  2. Pour buttermilk into a separate bowl for the mushroom bath.
  3. Rinse and dry the white button mushrooms, then coat with all-purpose flour in a large zipper bag.
  4. Dip each floured mushroom into buttermilk, then roll in panko mixture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a heavy pot or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Fry the coated mushrooms in batches for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  7. For air frying, preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and cook for 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway.
