  • 2 tablespoons Salted Butter Substitute with unsalted butter if preferred.
For the Custard Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Pure extract is best.
  • 1 cup Milk Whole or plant-based options can be used.
  • 3 large Egg Yolks
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Adjust according to preference.

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Core the large baking apples carefully, leaving the bottom intact.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Melt butter and add it to the mixture, stirring until combined.
  3. Stuff the cored apples with the oat filling, packing it down gently.
  4. Pour water into the bottom of the baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for approximately 50 minutes until tender.
  5. Combine milk, vanilla, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan, cook over low heat, whisking until thickened, about 10-15 minutes.
  6. After baking, drizzle the vanilla custard sauce over the apples before serving warm.
