Step-by-Step Instructions

  2. Cream together the chilled unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Mix in one egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. Gradually sift in all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt while mixing on low speed.
  5. Gently fold in butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, and walnuts if using.
  6. Using an ice cream scoop, portion out the dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Press additional butterscotch and chocolate chips into the tops of the dough mounds for decoration.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are golden and the middles are slightly set.
  9. Cool cookies on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks and sprinkle with sea salt while warm.
